EECS has developed a team of reading, writing and math enrichment specialists. Our team has a diverse curriculum for working with students that include Seeing Stars, Visualizing and Verbalizing, On Cloud Nine, The Spalding Method and the Institute for Excellence in Writing approach for language and writing development.
This academic support will be offered by appointment with one, two, or three times a week options. Our approach is to provide the repetition your child needs to develop a solid understanding of the building blocks of reading, writing (phonics), and math. Your child will develop the ability to apply the rules of decoding with automaticity to develop reading into a fluid process. The goal is to take away the strain of learning to read by turning the process into a fun adventure. Our approach is also individualized to the strengths and weaknesses of each child.

Dr. Wathen leads the academic intervention team and holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, a Masters and Doctorate in Education, and has taught 4th, 5th, Kindergarten, and a host of other junior high and high school classes. He is the Head Academic Coach and Founder of BurstTutors and has led a number of elite private schools across the country. He has developed his tutoring approach to build strong and lasting academic skills that unlock and sustain a life of learning and curiosity.
We are limiting each set of coaching sessions to 5 students per class for health and safety reasons due to Covid concerns and to provide the benefits of small group academic coaching. Don’t let your child slip behind due to the pandemic. You can give them the gift of early reading and solid math skills.
Parents, are you interested in an assessment that can help you MAXIMIZE your child’s learning potential?
EECS also provides psychoeducational assessments that can assist in better understanding your child’s cognitive and academic strengths and weaknesses. The evaluation consists of standardized tests of intelligence, academic achievement, social-emotional functioning, and information processing. The assessment is comprehensive and will also include parent and teacher input. A report will include the assessment findings and recommendations will be provided. The recommendations will include feedback to assist you in maximizing your child’s academic potential. If your child is identified with an educational disability then the appropriate recommendations will be made. This information can be vital to developing an academic plan to help your child flourish in school. These assessments can be provided at our office in Mission Viejo or at a location by you.
